Tony Bale and Julia Dent took over the almost derelict Blue Bell Public House in November 2009 and have created The Bluebell at Cocking, a Restaurant with Rooms which opened on December the 14th 2009

Tony is a former Master Chef of Great Britain and New Zealand, and in New Zealand he hosted his own cable television show “dish’in it out”


He is passionate about his food….
He was Chief Judge at the 1993 New Zealand Salon Culinare and went on to win the New Zealand Chicken Dish of the Year in 1994.

In 2003 Tony and Julia consulted on the opening of Tahini Sushi Bar and Restaurant in the prestigious Porta Portals in Mallorca...

The Restaurant was proclaimed the best Japanese Restaurant in Spain.

Tony still consults to Tahini and the Mallorcan Fine Cafe Restaurants of Grupo Cappuccino....

Tony and Julia have now worked together for over fourteen years, in restaurants ranging from two rosettes to alfresco dining in the Traumantanas

 

We buy Fish and Shellfish from Coopers of Andover.
Fruit and Vegetables from Munneries at East Wittering are
local and seasonal where possible.
Meats from Swandean at Worthing are British and fresh seasonal game is local…
Our Free Range Eggs for Breakfast are from Hallgate farm at Byeworth.

The understated menu changes a little bit
all the time making the most of fresh seasonal produce…
Served in a style that is stunning, yet simple and uncomplicated
Tony has a great team in the kitchen with Peter and Alex.


Tony attained two AA rosettes at The White Horse, Chilgrove.
and The Southdowns Hotel, Trotton

Julia hosts the restaurant with her assistant Jo Plume.
Julia has worked in many fine dining restaurant,
but the service at The Bluebell is relaxed but professional.

Our Wines have been carefully selected by our wine merchant Alan Snudden from The General Wine Company.

Our well-balanced House List is complimented by a Fine Wine List for that very special occasion.

We prepare daily Specials, which are offered verbally according to
our suppliers fresh seasonal produce…
